Two second-half penalties from Piers Francis earned Northampton victory against an error-strewn Exeter.

Saints led through Shaun Adendorff’s fourth try in six games but were forced to defend for much of the game.

Jack Yeandle’s try drew Exeter level but the home side squandered several further chances on Northampton’s line.

Sam Skinner scored with a minute remaining but Joe Simmonds’ conversion attempt never happened as he began his run-up, allowing a fair charge-down.
